We started staying in the house again this week, but decided to leave Sadie (our dog) with my parents for a little longer, since there are still so many contractors going in and out. It’s been a big week though! We passed another round of plumbing inspections, and our house is now solely running on the new electrical system (which also passed inspection!).

Our fiberglass shower pan was done this week, and in order to pass inspection it needed to hold water for at least 20 minutes. However, our inspector wasn’t able to make it out the first day, so it actually held water for about 26 hours; at least we know we got our money’s worth. We’d planned on having our other contractors there working that day, but the smell of the fiberglass was so overwhelming that it was impossible for anyone to even be in the house. Thankfully, we were still staying with my parents that night.

Our long awaited windows arrived on Tuesday and they are fantastic. However, two of them did have scratches, so they’ll need to be replaced, but our vendor told us to go ahead and install them in the meantime, which is nice because we can’t get our framing inspected until they’re installed. Our house is feeling so dark right now, so I’m definitely ready to have the kitchen window back. David framed out all of the windows, but he won’t install them until next week. I was a little hesitant about having the back end of the house exposed over the weekend, so David tarped it up just in case it happens to rain.

Our masons (Frank and Lloyd) have done an amazing job making the front of our house look seamless. They’re not done yet, but already you can’t even tell that there used to be a garage there. We’re really pleased thus far.

Oh, and we picked up our kitchen shelves this week. They still need to be sealed, but they are oh so lovely (and heavy as heck). We’re still brainstorming ways to install them with enough support but so that they still look floating. Worst case, we’ll find some brackets we like.

Check out the full series (so far) and be sure to join us tomorrow for installment #12 of Danielle and Austin's kitchen & garage remodel.
